No, it doesn't and you don't even pick your own path, you pick the path of others, hell SMT3 doesn't even have the concepts of Chaos, Law and Neutral as SMT1 and 2, your character is Chaos alignment from the moment Lucifer transforms you and in the original release you weren't even able to join Lucifer in that path.

SMT needs a fucking good story specially in the case that you are only controlling one character + the demons instead of human companions.
