Read my entire post anon, what you mention, and what people cared about back then, were the CHARACTERS and how they were fleshed out in terms of design and personality, not the "plot" of MK, very different things. I mentioned Doom because the same thing is happening to that franchise, in the original Doom you had a bunch of screens with text explaning a "plot" too, but it was more of an excuse for your character to be doing cool shit, no one really cared about it back then other than the devs thinking "game is finished so we might as well make up some story about why these dudes are fighting before publishing"
