You can't say everyone had the same experience or level of care. I was a turbo MK fanboy, I was obsessed with the story, drew OCs, had the toys and comics, loved the 1995 movie (which every boy at school did too) and absolutely felt betrayed by how much the second movie sucked, I remember watching the goofy live action tv show
I posted on Mk message boards for years, yes casual MK fans, probably older arcade going kids in their teens, only cared about Fatalitys and blood, but plenty of us were always diehard fans of it not just as a game, but a franchise
