Not a prequel, just a completely different story reusing some characters really.
It is vastly superior to Undertale. Way, WAY less preachy, and the "evil" route actually made me rethink my choices, unlike undertale genocide, where I was like "huh so if one of those things just convince 7 humans to die for it via cult or something they can just kill all humanity. I'll just kill them all while that is not possible for them." Here it's actually really messed up but still justifiable and it clearly is a hidden way to mess up the story. I like that.
