I grew up playing hockey. Played AAA goaltending all my life but I wasn’t good enough. I was good, but not enough. I would have sacrificed years of my life to play for the Maple Leafs. I would’ve worn that crest with pride. You could pay me anything and I’d wear it with a smile. It would’ve been my life’s crowning achievement to don the blue and white and even have a sniff at bringing the Stanley cup back to the city that raised me, gave me a good life, and provided me with so many opportunities I likely would not have had elsewhere.
Seeing the true colours of Marner is upsetting. He didn’t take a hometown discount, he never took the accountability he should have, he tried to milk this club for all he could. He doesn’t understand how lucky he is, being good enough to play in the NHL. Some of us try and try but hard work doesn’t always pay off.
I hope he’s remembered as a selfish selfish player. It was always about him. Not about the team. Not about the city. He wanted to be the number one here and when he wasn’t, he cried and moaned.
I’d go as far as saying I don’t want to see him dress in red and white and don the red maple leaf either. By Marner. I hope you bring your crap attitude to Vegas with you.
