Interpals is a very interesting place. I have used it on and off for over 10 years. It really was a great place to meet interesting people from around the world. I ended up meeting a lot of cool people and I ended up having a few flings myself. I will say, over the past 5 years the website has completely turn to shit. I went back on there last year and it was full of nothing but scammers and bots. The site is basically unusable at this point. Someone commented about Russian chicks, and they were right.. most are extreme nationalist and have the shortest fuses you have ever seen. It's almost bordering mental illness. They get off on fighting and endless drama. From what I understand, the site is now owned by some Russia guy and he lets the bots / scammers on there to boost the online population.. otherwise, it would be really dead social media site (really it's a messenger, but oh well). It should also be noted, the site's data has been compromised before, so that that as you will.
