There used to be regular threads on /trv/ regarding interpals. Tandem is kind of its successor in some ways, but haven't used it personally.

For a while interpals had gone to shit. It was full of bots/crypto scammers that inundated any real discussion. But I remade an account recently and was surprised it seems the site is in a bit of a re-surgence.

So what is interpals? It's a site that is structure really like the old online dating sites where you could just click a profile and send a message. No AI or algorithm bullshit involved and no pay-structure. In theory its a site for language exchange or pen pals, but its also used a lot for flirting and meet-ups. I guess we gotta keep this SFW

For the younger lads, this website could be a boon for you provided you aren't a total sperg. You can send out some feelers and have some local meetups in countries that you want to visit. Just be careful as a lot of the people on this site aren't exactly the most balanced individuals.

I made a pretty basic account and already got invited by Qts in morocco, china and japan, I mean they'd probably chicken out at this stage if I bit the bullet but it's something. Not everyone will get that but it seems its easier than before, and lots of new accs. Also this site is full of extremely thirsty Indonesian women for some reason.

Also please share experiences with tandem.

I've used these apps off and on. Communicating by text sucks in a foreign language and at its core, people are fucking boring no matter the country. We all eat food, take shits and find ways to fill our time.

Do you not know what a pen-pal is? The idea is that you share what you are doing in your life in your country, and compare it with your pen pal and discover what is different, and what you have in common.

Translation issues aside, it's about communicating via letters, which are no pressure and much easier to tell a story with, than face to face chatting and trying to translate on the spot.

Went to shit recently by making it borderline unusable without a subscription. Met a couple of interesting people there, but most can't talk to save their lives. Personally I feel like its audience 3 years ago was much better.
Also I haven't used interpals in a while, might be a good idea to make a new account if things are as you describe.

I have some issues with IP. I mostly seem to get flooded with messages from ai generated profipe picture accpunts that are under two weeks old, also just apparently one very devoted guy in Gambia making sockpuppet accounts. But on the positive side I have noticed women in SE and E Asia are very open to talking to me. I've been talking to one of them since last november. Interpals is a very interesting place. I have used it on and off for over 10 years. It really was a great place to meet interesting people from around the world. I ended up meeting a lot of cool people and I ended up having a few flings myself. I will say, over the past 5 years the website has completely turn to shit. I went back on there last year and it was full of nothing but scammers and bots. The site is basically unusable at this point. Someone commented about Russian chicks, and they were right.. most are extreme nationalist and have the shortest fuses you have ever seen. It's almost bordering mental illness. They get off on fighting and endless drama. From what I understand, the site is now owned by some Russia guy and he lets the bots / scammers on there to boost the online population.. otherwise, it would be really dead social media site (really it's a messenger, but oh well). It should also be noted, the site's data has been compromised before, so that that as you will.

The app is borderline unusable now without pro due to all the ads, but you can still message on desktop and use an adblocker there. I think they took away the calling feature on desktop, though. It’s really just a volume game to get people onto WhatsApp no matter what you’re using it for; the platform is too unreliable and people delete their accounts all the time.

The userbase is different now. Half the profiles I used to see were girls promoting their social media accounts. This isn’t very common anymore as they take this seriously and ban for it without any warning.

This has been my experience too. A lot of them are either well educated or hyper intelligent. Some of the smarts femoids I've ever met are on interpals. I used to use it a lot back in high school. I made a lot of pen pals, some of which I still keep in contact with sporadically. I also dated a girl from there after I met after returning there after years in 2022 and I was working remote and we lived together in Italy, Argentina, Brazil for a year and a half but it didn't work out but those were good times.
