A lot of top players just don't use the characters entire kits. Ion is the only Olympia who consistently uses gem for extending edgeguards, and even then I've only seen him do the gem dash into dair / fair on direct hit. Even Cake doesn't use Forsburn's actionable teleport that much. I assume they think it isn't worth it, but it's part of the fun of playing each character.
