We haven't gotten a major DLC change until biotech.

Royalty: very little content adds better combat for the player and a good psycaster destroys late game difficulty.
Ideology: again adds little, but more than royalty and gives literal easy mode with recruit spamming rituals or ideology that removes all difficulty of management.
Biotech: The first major content DLC adding new ways to play as well making mechs a bigger threat than they already were. Overall the new gold standard of DLC going forward.
Anomaly: What is essentially a scenario sold as a DLC. You either play the scenario or play rimworld. The most skippable DLC that you wont notice it gone once you stop playing it.
Odyssey: Not out yet but is SoS2 but probably more streamlined. It finally adds something rimworld has been lacking which is proper a late game.

vanilla+ is pure bloat on its own level, but it at least it modular and you pick and choose what you want then there is the cherry picking mod.
