Sincerity is a lost art. Too many devs/writers - whether AAA or indie - try to be funny in one way or another these days. Marvel quips, references, fourth-wall breaking "jokes". It's so fucking tiresome. It's similar with art direction, where anything too serious seems to be looked down on unless done with some sort of B-movie or self-aware flair
