Maybe it works like bees.
Bees are all female, from the drones to the guards to the attendees that feed the queen and care for the eggs and larvae. As the summer wraps up and it gets colder the Queen Bee will then produce a male heir, who can choose a drone to impregnate and she'll go through a metamorphism and become the next queen. The male is then chased off by the hive and dies and the new queen flies to a new spot and begins laying eggs who hatch into larvae and drones that build her hive and the whole process starts over.
Am I nuts or does this line up too well?
