Out of spite. I don't know what else to tell you. I'm not even being a dick. They literally hate user customization. Hang around in their communities for a while. They mock users like you if you ever post on Unixporn. Pic related is a picture I took while randomly browsing their Matrix channel on phone one day. You may like GNOME because it looks like MacOS but GNOME doesn't like you. I think Unixporn is cringe myself but I don't have a gigantic hate boner for users who like customization.
