They never experienced a good J-RPG story, so of course anything "above" utter trash is like the second messy of jesus christ for them.
Funnily enough, FFX story alone (and its not the best out of there) is far better, thanks also to good CGI custcene (that still gives more emotions than whatever DAZ 3D assets they are using in E33).
