This is an old Japanese tank on Tinian near Northwest field where the US prepped and launched the bombers that drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese controlled the islands from a little after WW1 till 1944 when the area saw fierce fighting. The Japanese told the locals that oncoming American troops were going to torture, rape, and enslave them so there are several “suicide cliffs” around each island where hundreds of people jumped as US troops approached.
