The owner killed the site on purpose citing "retardation" and lack of interest. The archive on Wayback Machine soon also got scrubbed but there's no telling if it was the owner who wanted it gone or someone else.
Possible explanations could be culture war shit, putting links in overly-visible areas attracting the wrong crowds, or just generally getting tired of it all but with the other workings of the site obscured it's impossible to know anything for sure.
