Sue's voice is deep because Pedro is soft IRL. He doesn't play Reed as a masculine man because the writers doesn't know what it's like to be married or the accountability that brings. Pedro isn't a leader. As a mother and wife Sue should be differing to Reed and her tone should always be lighter and looking to satisfy and soothe. It should be REED assuring Sue that everything is going to be fine. SUE should be the one panicked what a birth could do to literally everything. And Reed should handle it. They should be showing Reed as the kind of guy males would actively want to be like by keeping him thoughtful and charismatic. Reed throwing himself into his research and crimefighting should be a fear he should be laying to rest in a Sue. As a man is want to do during pregnancy: he calms and assures the love of his life. But here Sue is playing the masculine role and there's no real showcase of Reed being cool or a guy to emulate yet. This movie so far just confirms why there's no reason to pay attention to anything Marvel writes going forward: They put women first in a genre written for the target demographic and core consumer base of males between the ages of 10 to 49. They forget that they have to write these men as people the target audience wants to be, not for the potential female audience Marvel continues to court.
Also I hate Vanessa Kirby's fake smile. This isn't a real smile to me. This isn't a "I'm pregnant" smile. Pedro can't play married men convincingly. He's out of his element but it's not his fault. There is zero chemistry between he and Kirby. She doesn't play a woman in love. Or a convincing wife. She's your average boring pregnant girlboss doormat-life partner roommate power fantasy. It's hilarious. Watch Vanessa Kirby pull away from Pedro when he first kisses her in the intro scene but watch her lean into Johnny lifting her up after the intro and the reaction on her face closely after both times. THAT is attraction. That's chemistry. Can't fake it.
