I know what you mean. I have started watching Thundercats for the first time, and it's actually crazy-well animated (leave it to the Japanese), unlike it's contemporaries, especially Transformers which went off model and had cel stacking errors all the damn time.
The stories so far have been solid, but I think the characters are a little stagnant and same-y. Lion-O has that whole "kid in an adult body" thing, but that's only played intermittently, Tygra and Panthro behave almost identically, Cheetara is basically just "the girl one" and the Thunderkittens are inconsistent as to whether they behave like kids or adults, or are just not in the show at all. Snarf actually stands out the most in terms of personality, but in the worst way.
Still I'm only a few episodes in, and it's an 80s Saturday morning cartoon, so I'll give it more time.
