Except there are a million different shitty subtypes of dwarves as well. The problem with dwarves is that their concept is so pigeonheld that it's hard to deviate from that.
Elves have very strong fundamental core characteristics. On the other hand, they can be surprisingly versatile while still maintaining that core.
That's also noteworthy how much more important elves are for the history and lore of many settings.
