The core message of the franchise is taking action, and doing what you truly believe is right even if the rest of the world tells you you're wrong. The concept of "Freedom" embodied by Sonic is interpreted through that lens, so Sonic is not only completely free to do whatever he wants to, but also uses that freedom to do what he believes is the right thing, regardless of what the convention of the world around him says is right or wrong.

Sonic being "impulsive" or "reckless" comes from that core trait of taking action immediately to get the job done without wasting any precious time. And everything he does is motivated by his choice to do what he believes is right, without any regard for what the world around him thinks, which is the theme of "freedom" itself represented through that free will.

These core traits of Sonic are the core themes of the series as a whole, and as a result, they are essentially indestructible, immortal, absolute concepts. The very things that drive Sonic's actions are the very things that the series as a whole says is "the right way to live your life". Which then means, that any story that approaches Sonic through the lens that he's too 'reckless", or that he should listen to what someone else says is right, is inherently an "Anti-Sonic" story. Anti-Sonic, meaning antithetical to not just Sonic's character, but antithetical to the very franchise itself.
