The Abyss is not the Dark. The Abyss is a more feral thing. It spawned from a Dark lord or sorcerer or some other powerful primeval man because he was literally being picked at, tortured, and experimented on by the Oolicilians sorcerers seeking his power after they literally exhumed the poor bastard. That's the heads of their statues have been torn off. The Abyss is basically the Dark, driven mad with rage or sorrow or some other negative emotion.
