And so I will be watching every Barnsley game this season.
I shall attend Oakwell with other connoisseurs of art, with an easel to sketch the inevitable blooter. I shall record his performances all season and edit into a 6 hour video to show my grandchildren to study.
I will enrol at the University of Barnsley and converse with the physics professor over the angles, with the psychology professor over the reading of the game and the dismantling of opponents, with the performing arts scholars over the graceful movement.
Then I shall retire to the lounge of a Barnsley private members club with a port and a cigar and reminisce with the patrons over the various chips, dinks and threaded through balls, the twists, turns and screamers of years gone by.
Finally I shall rest in bed, sleepy soundly with the knowledge that the beautiful game still lives on, as long as this exemplar is still playing.
