happy birthday to one of my favorite ex-United players
Why do some people consider spurs a big club when their last league win was in the 1960s?

I wouldn't be talking about trophies if I was a wet spam fan. My question still stands, why do you think they're a big club when they never win the league? How many leagues do their London rivals have since spurs last won one? Probably in the double digits.

Last seasons europa league was statistically the easiest it has ever been since its inception because they removed the filtering from the champions league. You no longer get champions league teams dropping down to europa which is why spurs played the 8th place team from the Norwegian league or wherever it was, in the semis.

because half the team was injured. odegaard was ruled out for 2 months in october. white, saka, jesus, havertz, tomiyasu gabriel etc were all out for extended periods of 2+ months. some are still out even now (gabriel). there was a point in the season where arsenal literally only had 2 fit attackers being trossard and sterling. that's why nwaneri came onto the scene as a right winger. and why lewis skelly was drafted into the first team since there was such a shortage of defenders.

You are saying the reason arsenal werent good enough was because of injuries, if thats the case then logic follows that prior to injuries they should have been top of the league.
They werent, even at the start of the season when 100% fit arsenal were not top of the league.

You're talking to people who use the most insane mental gymnastics to try and paint Arsenal as being a bad team despite the facts and figures going against them. Just wait for the replies, you'll have a good laugh. Best defence? Defence suddenly won't matter. 3rd most goals scored with no attack? Somehow injuries won't matter. They'll tell you there is no such thing as a title race. Arsenal 1 point off top by the time Odegaard got injured? Doesn't matter because the league is won by whoever is first in September. Just watch lol.

again this logic makes no sense. there are several quality teams in the league. it's not a one team league. where you're ranked in september doesn't mean shit, and arsenal can tell you that themselves when they were top last 2 seasons. you still haven't made a credible argument for why arsenal don't have quality. explain why having the best defence is somehow a show of lack of quality? or having the 3rd highest scoring team is somehow a show of lack of quality etc

But the club has to appease fans because they've been fucking crying for a striker for like 2 years now so they have to show some signs of intent. Not sure they're going about it in a smart way though if a deal is collapsing over a handful of millions.

he wasn't the same after he came back from injury because of the surgery that was required on his ankle after the injury. any arsenal fan will tell you he had a mediocre season post-recovery. his injury was just one of many circumstances that hurt the squad. didn't help several other senior members of the team also got injuired too. it was already bad enough losing odegaard when there was no backupn but then losing the best attacker (saka), losing the only 2 strikers at the club (havertz, jesus) and being forced to play a defensive mid as striker, and then to add insult to injury losing gabriel for the season all just fucked everything up.

the media doesn't rate spurs though. i mean, they talk about them like they're bigger than they actually are but they are never considered title challengers and there are fuck all expectations for them. if any other "big club" goes trophyless it's considered sackable. spurs have been trophyless for decades and the media doesn't say shit.

They were never there to begin with. The entire "rivalry" is based on Arsenal moving from south to north London and Spurs getting assblasted about it. But in reality Spurs are as relevant as Watford when it comes to London rivals for Arsenal.

rivalry
/ΛrΚJvlri/
noun
competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field.
Spurs have never competed against Arsenal for any serious trophy and Arsenal are by far and away the objectively superior club when it comes to the trophy haul. That isn't a rivalry. It's more like a beatdown. Only Spurs fans take that "rivalry" seriously because their association to Arsenal is the only thing that makes them relevant.

It's annoying because it's a forced rivalry. There isn't a real rivalry there. Growing up we all saw Arsenal vs United, Arsenal vs Chelsea, and recently Arsenal vs City. Competing for actual trophies. That was never the case with Spurs. I'd have the same energy if Brentford or any other random club tried to force a rivalry.

You could consider it a rivalry if Arsenal actually competed for that trophy along with Spurs. But they didn't. Arsenal were literally too good to even qualify for Europa so it's a moot point. If they were both competing in the CL last season and Spurs went on to win that then you'd have a point. That's a rivalry as per the literal definition of a rivalry. Spurs winning a competition Arsenal weren't even in is as relevant to Arsenal as Leeds winning the Championship.

Pep benched him out of stubbornness and then started reluctantly giving him some minutes after the mid-season in the weaker games and he actually started banging in goals but there is something slightly fraudulent about him, he knows how to pop up in the right place but his mentality is weak imo. I don't think he's a Cole Palmer in waiting but he's not bad

Prem player market has inflated because revenues are going up. As a watermark look at Aston Villa. Β£380 estimated revenue before player trading for 24/25, similar to Arsenalβs revenue pre-Covid. Some of the unreasonable release clauses of a year or 2 ago look reasonable now like Eze and MGW. If you want cheap deals buy elsewhere. From abroad Wirtz and Rodrygo are the type of player you usually canβt buy for any price but circumstances have made them available too.

There are several quality teams yes
But quality =\= best in the league
Arsenal have a quality team when fully fit, just not league winning quality
They are a top 4 side, even a top 3 side

the only thing missing is a 20 goals a season striker. that's been the only shortcoming of this arsenal team. defensively best in the league by a distance, midfield one of the best in the league or arguably the best. attack has been a one man show with saka so far. havertz and jesus are mediocre to good at best. that's why so many people are praying arsenal don't get gyokeres because anyone who knows ball can see that he is very likely the final piece of the puzzle.

And so I will be watching every Barnsley game this season.
I shall attend Oakwell with other connoisseurs of art, with an easel to sketch the inevitable blooter. I shall record his performances all season and edit into a 6 hour video to show my grandchildren to study.
I will enrol at the University of Barnsley and converse with the physics professor over the angles, with the psychology professor over the reading of the game and the dismantling of opponents, with the performing arts scholars over the graceful movement.
Then I shall retire to the lounge of a Barnsley private members club with a port and a cigar and reminisce with the patrons over the various chips, dinks and threaded through balls, the twists, turns and screamers of years gone by.
Finally I shall rest in bed, sleepy soundly with the knowledge that the beautiful game still lives on, as long as this exemplar is still playing.

Wissa is 28. He's in his prime. Buying prime players comes at a premium mostly, they have relatively no sell on value because they're going to go back to shit after their short peak, and are only worth buying if you already have a good squad and you need them before you sign a permanent player, are challenging for something and they'll do, and/or have money to spare.
Basically the kind of signing for a club who are the complete opposite of Tottenham.
