It's interesting that most of my childhood friends were also raised by single moms. That normalized the situation for me but looking back on it, I can see that it was mostly due to married parents not wanting their kids hanging out with those of us who were the children of single moms. Even though my parents were married when I was born, I was still seen as a social contagion. And I really can't blame them. My mother filled my brain full of leftist, female POV shit that had man hatred at its core.
The telling thing is that we always lived in conservative areas. My leftist mother knew leftist areas were shitholes and didn't want to live in them either. So she at least got that part right, even while bad mouthing the community and its leaders for being conservative. The downside is that my siblings and I were taught conservative = bad, leftist = good, and it wasn't until we actually had first hand personal experience with leftists and leftist areas that we began to unlearn what we had been taught. It would have been better if we knew that from childhood instead of learning the hard way as young adults.
