You jest, but Aristophanes (at least from what I gather) was vehemently anti-homo. Several of his plays make jokes about one specific bloke named Cleonymous who was a notorious effeminate fag to the people of Athens at the time and all his sex jokes are about women (it was typical for the costumes comic actors wore to have oversized dicks sewn on to them and there is one scene at the end of his play Wasps wherein a naked "flute girl" plays an old man's "flute". Of course the flute girl was being played by a bloke, but that's beside the point.)
The reference to the dildo is in a play where the women go on protest and refuse to have sex with their husbands until they end their war with Sparta; the dildo is brought up when the sex-starved women start to have withdrawals
