I don't think so. It's just that what we today consider elves is a very narrow type of race/species of what was once considered elves. What was elves before could very well be nymph, pixies, fairies, petals, grigs, wisps, spirits, apparitions and various other beings. If you look up their lore, they can be quite interesting even today.
