youre right, as a fan of all 3 consoles i think the ps2 has the deepest library with most longevity. but being a fan of these consoles today is different than being a fan of them when they came out.
check out this chart. this is what the issue is. this generation came out during a time where many people couldnt research and find the hidden gems or the good games. so im sure a shitload of people wasted money on terrible games on the ps2 because the market was oversaturated with them. ps2 games are like mobile phone games in that sense. there are millions of them to sift through before you find the good one.
so while i would say objectively the ps2 might have the largest amount of good games, if you average it out, the gamecube and the xbox was still worth owning because while they didnt have as many good games at the ps2, you had a much betterchance of getting something you actually liked on that console.
if you have 1 10/10 game in a group of 50 and then you have a bunch of 1/10 or 3/10 games, the one 10/10 game doesnt carry the rest and the average quality of game on the console is a 3/10. the xbox and the gamecube never had this problem. maybe the average gamecube or xbox game is like a 7/10 or a 6/10 . all consoles have their stinkers.
eitherway i am saying all this as someone who thinks this is the #1 best console generation i dont hate the ps2 i think its cool. i have a silver slim model personally and im trying to look into modding it soon.

>just weren't on the internet because mobile wasn't a big deal
in 2010 30% of people didnt even have internet at all period let alone mobile internet. i always have the chart on standby because there are so many conversations here they necessitate having it. I think there was a tipping point where it just got into the hands of too many people who shouldnt have it/werent ready for it. but thats a different topic entirely. yes me and my friends went out constantly during the 2000s. and as i said earlier it was more fun because you and your group could go out and have fun/goof off/ live your life in the now because not every person had a smartphone to record you with while you and your friends were being retarded being happy. its a big reason why bar culture and party culture and concert culture has changed and many dont participate in it any longer.
>new edge era
maybe we are on the cusp of one with zoomers realizing that maybe our current world is fucked
