There is nothing evil in trying to keep your nation together. The cyborgs threatened the stability of SE so taking action against them before they could become too big of a threat is not evil.
The squids being peaceful is no guarantee that they'll remain so in the future. Terminating them before that happens is not necessarily evil and their current day behavior shows that they definitely are a serious and wicked threat.
The anomalous peace and safety that's existed since the second world war in the west really twisted peoples understanding of the world. People today are stupid to think that they don't have to fight to protect what's theirs. The predators stand ready to take whatever they can once you decide that you no longer have to hunt them and protect the gate.
