From a Youtube video, it seems one can extend it like a double chest, although two copper golems need to be summoned. I wonder if copper chests can be crafted as is. I'm already loving the concept of the copper golem. I hope they are able to reach chests 2 blocks above them, since I stack chests in my base. Not only are copper golem useful, they are so fucking cute, I hope we could customize them further like with llamas and carpets, maybe leather armor would find a new use for/with them.
