How, in the richest country on the planet, is there this level of homelessness? This level of hopelessness? Critical levels of substance abuse and addiction as an escape from the harsh reality we so often find ourselves in. How can our day to day continue to go on like nothing is amiss while crisis and disaster constantly loom at our doorsteps and in the backs of our minds, and when those who have been destroyed by it are injecting drugs in front of our yards? We allow it to continue because the system has been engineered in such a way that to fight back means to give up your entire way of life, something very few of us, including myself, are ever willing to do.
We preach freedom and the values of personal liberty against big government while simultaneously jailing those who possess or smoke marijuana, a natural substance of the Earth. We actively try to suppress the American people from expressing their second amendment rights, we prosecute those who have been made a victim of unconstitutional bureaucratic overreach and we outlaw more democratic forms of voting if it threatens the ruling party’s stranglehold. We believe those who say mean things should have their freedom of speech restricted because there are some who simply can’t handle being offended. We impose prejudice against those who look, love, or believe differently than we do, despite our beloved and objectively false line that “all men are created equal”. We have turned every aspect of life into a for profit business where liberty is only as important as how much you’re willing to pay for it, and how much you’re willing to hate for it. We are a nation of hypocrites and conformers and we trample on the ideas of personal liberty regularly.
