It had a lot of games, but the biggest ones that appealed to Japan are Japan only. It also had a lot of PC-98 ports, so you can experience those games with CD audio on a home console.
Due to language barrier, 85% of the PCE's best games can't be experienced by outsiders, since they're so text heavy.
Whether these are GOOD games or not is up to you. You more or less have to like the genre. Very few of the games are true classics like Rondo, more like niche titles and niche genres.
Lapace no Ma PCE-CD is much closer to the PC-98 original and includes first person exploration. the Super Fami version is top down like final fantasy or Dragon Quest. No clue why they're so different, but first person dungeon crawlers seem more visually appealing to me.
