"Vanilla V was an unfinished mess" isn't particularly controversial. Yeah lots of people loved the game, thats absolutely true, but people here need to stop pretending like it didn't also get a ton of pushback for its issues at the time too. Its not just evil contrarian boegyman who didn't like it, I mean the overworld and exploration is so insanely different to what came before its only natural some people just wouldn't like the changes.
Its an especially uncontroversial take now that VV is out and any incentive for honeymooning the original release is over. Like I don't really value their opinions, but if (you) are treating twitter opinions as the end all be all, I'm looking at that exact tweet now and its literally 90% people agreeing with him in the quote and replies saying it was VV that actually made it good. He unironically, and I say this without any artifice, got more shit and pushback for calling soulless hacks 2 the piece of shit that it is than he did for calling vanilla V bad.
