Kris is so obviously meant to represent Toby/authorial intent it’s unreal. When you play a video game, especially one like this, every choice you make is informed by who you are going in (your soul) inside of a “vessel” given by the creator. Gonermaker is mocking the undertale oc culture from 2016, removing all nuance from the game, twisting that narrative of “Chara is responsible for everything I did” that was very popular. Deltarune takes place in Massachusetts where Toby grew up (weather report on TV in chapter 2), Kris’ passion for piano (obviously like Toby, the section in chapter 4 sounds like it was even recorded irl), and of course whenever Kris is acting on their own volition, usually to progress the story forward linearly, TOBY IS LITERALLY CONTROLLING THEM… like objectively speaking, Toby is choosing every action they take. The worst thing you can do to Kris is take away all impact they have on their own “work”, saying theyll never play piano again (something toby has talked about being a personal fear iirc), but the ultimate end goal is to take a different “vessel”, to forcefully “self-insert” onto a side character instead of the “human”… very layered to me. When a player and the author are attuned, and have a mutual understanding, though, something very special can happen…
