Yeah the whole retcon was a bit shitty, I mean they should at least have hinted a few things before but nada, so it felt out of place. (her design is good tho imo)

Since you've been exchanging letters since the beginning even tho you never met her, logically speaking Gary could piece the pieces together especially since Ayla is close to us too imo it's not that bad.
The only bad part was the fact that she was absent for years and we magically got her story out of nowhere.
But well after the Ishmael's patch things started to change drastically. the fact that Gary doesn't remember anything after that is what's make me seethe the most tho, he should have retained his memories of the past timeline
