Atari easily
>floods the market with shit games by 1983, killing the US console market for at least two years
>company is divided up into different unrelated companies, Atari Games and Corp, sewing brand confusion
>Corp. run by Jack Tramiel, who's more obsessed with computers than consoles, let's the 7800 get raped by Nintendo and Sega
>squanders the Lynx
>Atari Corp dies an embarrassing death with his sons at the helm and bombing with the Jaguar, could've been a decent machine if not for the controller and bugs in the CPU
>Atari Games meanwhile does ok, forging ties with Namco
>Then they get cocky, first by breaking Nintendo 10NES security system, then haggling for rights to Tetris
>spends the late 80s/early 90s fighting in court
>by 1994, the CEO dies, company is sold off to Time Warner, then Hasbro, at some point Williams/Midway is involved too?
>eventually bought by Infogrames, rebranded back to Atari, becomes a Europoor publisher of shovelware and DBZ games
>loses all relevance once Bamco secures global rights to DBZ games
At least Sega has a clear line from their successful days to their current state, Atari was a cluster fuck after they split up, with both divisions experiencing embarrassing failures, and devaluing the Atari name. Sega's fuckups were massive but at least their name brings up more fond memories of when they did things right than Atari.
