Yeah, I think once the 3D Pandora's box has been open, it's difficult to go back to it even if it does look better. So, I think it'll have to stay looking 3D but they also need to try make a large game that works on a switch(2). So, that also puts some limitations on it. It would be a miracle if they could make something that has a good mix of styles that many players would accept without some casuals calling 2D/2.5D "mobile/old" and losing interest
Really, I think most people have accepted the current look but I think it's the whole story, region, variety of characters and gameplay that needs an overhaul. lol which is basically everything else but easier said than done.
