It's kind of overrated and underrated. Redditors and YouTube shills will glaze it for its CFW and say other dumb shit like "the coziest comfiest handheld for retro blasting", but I don't think the hate it gets is really justified either. It's a system that got a lot right at the time when there was so much slop on the market, it's <$50 and sometimes could be had for ~$30 with AliExpress coupons and sales, and it's for that reason it's still a top seller years down the line and has matured since then with community support. I still think it has the best feeling buttons and dpad among handhelds I have in the same budget category, and OnionOS is pretty nice (though I use MinUI nowadays). The triggers on the Miyoo Mini specifically are pretty bad, but they are a lot better on the Miyoo Mini Plus at the cost of being a bigger device.
However, I will agree there are handhelds now that can do a lot of things better for the same price range, and you should consider getting those unless there's something you specifically like about the Miyoo devices. If you want something that's a similar size or some other micro device, I honestly think the Miyoo Mini is still the best option as similar small options like the GKD Pixel don't really do much better and cost more. If you just want a good vertical handheld with a 3.5" screen or less, the TrimUI Brick is the best option for something just slightly bigger than the Miyoo Mini. If form factor isn't a consideration, just pick something and compare it to the Miyoo Mini and it will probably be better.
