It's lazy in a single player game, but it at least works around it. In XIV, they take an even lazier option and do absolutely nothing, which constantly breaks the storytelling (hey, remember when you were on your way to fight Barbaricia and your character just kind'a sits there while everyone else fights?).

Yes, obviously they don't have the option of just giving the WoL a generic weapon, but all they would need to do is use the default job stances and/or animations. They don't need a custom fucking rig (although they SHOULD be able to do that, they've done that for the Hildebrand quests, which gave me hope that DT would do more... but nope). Barbaricia example, think how much better it would have felt if you were playing MCH or BRD and your character was doing even just generic shooting or skill animations at the enemies on the way there. So it wouldn't feel like you were completely deadweight.

That couples with other nonsense like how our characters are only ever able to move at the speed of plot. So we stand there dumbfounded while a Blasphemy kills Ahewann and do nothing. Or we confront a mad serial killer who leaves by just walking away. etcetc.
