7.4 might be a bit of transition where we head back to Eorzea and shit while throwing out some subtle bits to lead into the next storyline. And if we're gonna play with the key and gate then that'd be another reason we'd end up sticking around in Tural a bit longer.

After ShB was popular and they realized what 'worked' so they decided to skip an entire expansion of jerking off in Garlemald and trying to make anyone care about Zenos as an antagonist. But those parts of the story were still needed so they reduced it to what they needed both to tell their story and have some good themes before moving on to the full on Endwalker portion which was another large chunk plus actual finale.

yes, ShB and DT easily clears it, EW arguably does too depending what you want, but at the very least EW's raid story was much better.
People were much more happy with the MSQs for both of them, Omega's raids were all a bit all over the place in terms of quality, EW had the meme massive hitboxes but still some cool fights, Eden easily clears both, people massively prefered Bozja but forays were still disliked enough the devs decided to not do it in EW, but on the flipside EW made PvP way better than it had ever been.

SB gave us an enormous leap in QoL upgrades as well as set the pace for how storytelling and cinematics work in XIV.

Going from HW to SB, every raid and every dungeon has way more spectacle, the story beats aren't just two characters talking, the game was far better to play in basically all respects.

One of the biggest issues with DT is that they've barely evolved the storytelling and cinematic aspects past what SB did all those years ago. ShB and EW stretched it but were imaginative and interesting and carried on from a story we were heavily invested in.

Then we get to DT and the story being so much weaker makes every other part of the narrative systems feel so much worse. The WoL still just stands around watching in cutscenes because they're too lazy to even just put some default job animations into the damn game.

In ME2, no matter what gun you were using your character would be using a pistol in the cutscenes. I'm playing Rune Factory right now and it's the same, regardless of your weapon in cutscenes you're using a katana. Those are both lazy options but they're still miles and miles better than "We can't know what job the WoL is so he just stands there doing nothing while everyone else does cool stuff." Fucking FF11 had that problem a million years ago and they still haven't evolved past that.

It's lazy in a single player game, but it at least works around it. In XIV, they take an even lazier option and do absolutely nothing, which constantly breaks the storytelling (hey, remember when you were on your way to fight Barbaricia and your character just kind'a sits there while everyone else fights?).

Yes, obviously they don't have the option of just giving the WoL a generic weapon, but all they would need to do is use the default job stances and/or animations. They don't need a custom fucking rig (although they SHOULD be able to do that, they've done that for the Hildebrand quests, which gave me hope that DT would do more... but nope). Barbaricia example, think how much better it would have felt if you were playing MCH or BRD and your character was doing even just generic shooting or skill animations at the enemies on the way there. So it wouldn't feel like you were completely deadweight.

That couples with other nonsense like how our characters are only ever able to move at the speed of plot. So we stand there dumbfounded while a Blasphemy kills Ahewann and do nothing. Or we confront a mad serial killer who leaves by just walking away. etcetc.

Good storytelling can keep you caught up in the moment and ignore the curtains and stage-scenery to use a theatrical metaphor. It was patently obvious the scions would come back and yet I still felt the emotional punch with Graha Tia's speech to the bots before he disappears and now it's just you and the twins.

I won't ever let cynicism and even the abject disaster of DT or even if they somehow retconned it or something, take away from just how much that emotional payoff was worth it. I've said it before but storytelling has to earn its pathos and drama. Any two bit hack can write out some maudlin moment in the abstract, you see it on youtube commenters doing solo-RP. But XIV earned that over upwards of 11 years of development. Not to say END didn't have issues, but if the game had just ended then I would have been entirely satisfied and happy.

I like the Scions a lot, the issue isn't us being "stuck with the Scions", the issue is that DT tried to both move the Scions out of the main throughfare and keep them present. It tried to do both and failed at both.

Probably the issue, unfortunately, is trust dungeons need NPCs, especially for bosses. That's why Y'shtola turned up just in time to help out against Zoraal'Ja before peacing out again. But they can always just default to random NPC's again. The other issue is the Scions are so powerful and so well connected, they're basically the answer to any problem we face. Especially when you've got Cid to look into anything tech based.

Imo, they should pick a handful of them and then choose some other beloved NPCs and make that the group for the expansion. Eg. They've talked about a Samurai expansion in Hingan, so-

I'm so mad that I decided to play Dawntrail, I only started ZZZ a month later after my XIV sub finally ran out. By that point I'd missed Ellen. I'd already played WuWa on launched but dropped it after the first day (it was fucking dogshit at the start, boring gray chink world with endless chink jargon and shitty character designs, and the comically bad and rushed Avengers Assemble shit at the end of the base story with a bunch of characters the writers did nothing to make me care about). I only came back to WuWa because of Camellya's banner, won her and then stuck with the game. Then saw how the game improved with Mt Firmament and the Black Shores chapters, then 2.0 came and took the game to another level and it's only gotten better.

Meanwhile Yawnfail has only gotten worse and worse I see.

Not exactly, they do rerun characters multiple times. The problem is that it can take months if not years. Shenhe from Genshin didn't have a banner rerun for nearly 3 fucking years. WuWa reruns characters pretty often though.

I still see regular PF groups for Delubrum normal to farm relic materials or rare notes. Just make some rewards, make them insanely low drop chance in normal and a high/guaranteed chance in the hard version. Normal difficulty people get a grind, hardcore raiders get a challenge, keep a couple rewards exclusive to the hard mode (like cerberus or the new flying block mount), everyone wins.
