I think Toby has a clear idea of what he wants from Gaster, and had it before all the fanon started, so I doubt he'd change it in the event Mysteryman isn't Gaster. It'll be a tough pill for the fandom to swallow but there are already piles of corpses of now-incompatible fanworks from the first two chapters of the game
