toby sucks has no idea what he's doing

The big 'message' thus far in Deltarune is that escapism is fine, but is dangerous if overused or relied on too much. Its essentially one big dig at the worst aspects of fandom culture, which makes sense, given that Toby has been involved with absolute fucking cancer like Homesuck and Underfail and now this.

The problem is that the characters he's applying it to...can't help it. The three kids (Noelle, Kris, and Susie) are all horribly damaged to absolutely no fault of their own. No part of peeling away from escapism and facing their shitty parents (or lack thereof) will never, ever change their situation. You cannot undivorce your parents. You cannot conjure new parents into thin air. You cannot save your dying dad, or stop your mother from being a turbocunt.

I don't understand what the fuck he's trying to say with these two conflicting messages. Its absolutely bizarre to look at the situation the characters are in and say "Yeah, but escapism BAD, stinky fandom nerds. They should go back to real life, where mom and dad aren't there/are divorced/are dead, and DEAL WITH THEIR PROBLEMS!!!"

Especially when Toby is a scrawny white suburban nerd who likely has never faced a lick of hardship in his entire life aside from fandom drama.
