Chapter 6: Flower World - Kris will probably open a Dark World in Flower King at some point, to explore their relationship with Asgore and link into the "golden flowers" of Undertale.

This is why I think "only one ending" is deliberately misleading. There will be a number of paths, but the one you go down will have always been the only route within the context of the story

The Shadow Crystals themselves aren't important, it's the experiences that lead up to the Fun Gang obtaining them that are. We know the Crystals don't have any effect on Kris's mind. But we do know that each schizoboss encounter forces the Fun Gang to grapple with topics they wouldn't have otherwise considered:

The big 'message' thus far in Deltarune is that escapism is fine, but is dangerous if overused or relied on too much. The problem is that the characters he's applying it to...can't help it. The three kids (Noelle, Kris, and Susie) are all horribly damaged to absolutely no fault of their own.
