That's one way to interpret it. I think ERAM means that Kris takes solace in the fact that the Weird Route isn't their fault because they're already laden with so much guilt over what happened to Dess. They're able to have an enemy they can hate instead of stewing in their self-hatred like they presumably normally do.

I love all the little things you can do in Chapter 4 just to further twist the knife in the Weird Route for Kris:
>Choose to think of Noelle to force Kris to see what we're doing to her in real time like we're fucking Griffith
>Choose to pray for Noelle just to be a spiteful fuck, making Kris kick the wall in frustration
>Denying Kris their tea, so they try to an hero with the apple Gerson gives them
Even if the stuff with Noelle was less than I hoped there would be, I think the changes to the Chapter make up for it.

If anything, the Weird Route is gonna somehow lead to Kris's freedom.

The Weird Route is going to end with Kris having to step up and reclaim their freedom to stop (Us). Expect Kris to be the final boss at the end of the Weird Route.

No, I think the choices are choices Kris organically thinks up. Even Weird Route can fit into this, as the Mantle game hints that Kris has violent impulses they're trying to suppress, and the Weird Route is forcing Kris to give into said impulses.
That's why they're so angry at the end of Chapter 4--even though it's your doing, you wouldn't be able to do this if Kris wasn't even the slightest bit inclined to do so.
