Elden ring, Elden ring DLC, Nightreign
Fight Knight, this is a heavy, heavy recommend. An insane ex of the dev got all momentum of the games popularity killed because she convinced retards that he sent birds to attack her through psychic magic and also psionically raped her. It's very heartfelt, has great music, the gameplay is very difficult and satisfying.
Also dragon's dogma 2. I know everyone hates it, but I love third person RPG's with good combat character customization no voiced protagonist and a final fantasy job system. The story was kind of ass but the post game narrative was so fucking cool conceptually that I don't care if the main quest before was ass.
None of this is meant to be a gotcha, I genuinely love all of these games, undertale, and deltarune, maybe equally. You're correct that very few games are as passionate and heartfelt as DR is, and few bring nearly as much joy

Another thing he does well is integrating the nostalgia into the story and characters themselves. Everyone is longing for the good ol days, the small comfy town vibes, the old technology, the bittersweet feeling of reminiscing with childhood friends about the cringy shit you used to get up to. This shit is felt especially hard in chapter 3 to me with tenna and the talk of dess, as well as noelles house in 4. The game isn't full of nostalgia just for the player, it's integral to the themes of the game, and even the secrets like MANCOUNTRY, though those take on a more disturbing tone. Nostalgia carries the good with the bad, after all

dd1 is pretty good to play vanilla, if you intend on using Warrior I'd recommend dinput8.dll hooks for the purpose of using a keybind to swap between 2 sets of skills, since warrior only gets 4 skills in comparison to the 8 every other class gets. Warrior is also the weakest class endgame mage is broken so the Greatsword Max mod is cool for making the warrior combat much smoother and more effective. It leans slightly in the OP side of things, but everything becomes OP in dd1 eventually

To be fair this isn't explained very well with the fight.

Basically Gerson has a hidden mercy bar. It goes up by 1% for every star you see rise from him. Once it exceeds 100% he does his finale attack for which surviving wins you the fight.

He does a load of extra attacks when he finishes his dialogue so it helps immensely to fill his mercy bar to skip them.

Attacking, Rude Busters and Healing yourself all increase his mercy. As >>715811239 says, healing gives you more mercy BUT healing also costs more TP so you actually gain more mercy by using Rude Busters. My advise is to use just one Rude Buster before just healing yourself over and over as I found that was enough to cause you to skip all his extra attacks.
