There couldn't be a schizoboss in Chapter 3 because Kris opened the fountain instead of Dess. Normally she's there first and gives someone a crystal which drives them insane. This sequence is different in Chapter 3. It's normal in Chapter 4 but she makes the mistake of giving the crystal to the one person who'd never use it.

Although it makes you wonder what the point of the shadow crystals is. I'm not entirely sure what are the different sides of the conflict here and who's on which. It seems like Friend helps you get the shadow crystals and Kris doesn't necessarily want them since they could just get them from Dess, right?

Besides, I get this might sound stupid to you but I doubt it was the Knight handing the Shadow Crystals. I suspect the Knight is entirely made of the material that could be the Shadow Crystals thus how you get it when you nip it off.

Still of the theory I am that Shadow Crystals are spread by the other G-man and Knight I also suspect to be Dess (or rather a half of her) and the bunker is inherently tied to that.
