I highly doubt they'd give a fair enough reason as to why Toriel is so cold towards him. Much like her Undertale counterpart, I think she'd rather just play house and act like everything is fine, pretending to others that things are still the same. Her pseudo-caring attitude and religious faith make sense if she's also trying to keep up appearances, which would give her a sense of normalcy.
Asgore likely became too invested in Dess's disappearance and discovered Dark Worlds when digging deep enough, which could have led to him being removed from the force. With his financial situation taking a hit, continuously insisting on a cold case within their household, Asriel moving out, and Kris going through puberty, everything violently crumbled with the bath bomb incident.
These are just my thoughts on it.
