The soul is now taking items from Kris that weren't in the inventory (thorn ring) and has now forced Kris on a festival date they were trying to avoid at all cost

As opposed to Susie and Noelle hinging entirely on Noelle being a worthless damsel, and Susie being the greatest person on the planet and the all-important savior. Toby functions too much on tired cliches and just thinks in terms of this "man in the relationship and woman in the relationship" mentality.
It's weird that Alphys just suddenly starts looking more girly with Undyne. And you also have to note how many occasions Toby likes having Alphys and Ralsei and Noelle bullied and it's only these characters he focuses on.
