Is there anyone else that loved the whole atmosphere and dialogue of Chapter 1 way more than Chapter 2 and 3? Something about the whole mood was great and while I still am obsessed with the game, I feel like the later were so different. Chapter 4 is exactly where I thought the game would've headed in Chapter 1.

I really miss how King was portrayed back in Chapter 1. He was a nice breath of fresh air since he was a purely evil iredeemable shithead who spat in the face of the morals and values you learned in Undertale... and then he turned into a goofy loser who is guaranteed to get a redemption in the very next chapter and Toby decided that Lancer, who was very clearly scared and in pain, was never in any actual danger of being fucking murdered by his asshole dad.

Well the thing with Chapter 1 was that the way it was written was set up almost like a direct parody of Undertale, it had a straight beginning/middle/end, and made a direct point that no this is not Undertale your choices DONT matter(but then CH 2 onward we get Snowgrave, Ch 1 it literally doesnt make a differnce what you do) and one motherfuckers in this world DO want you fucking dead and you have to fight.
I feel that with the next installments we are gonna get a similar feeling of futility, and no matter how Toby decides to wrap it up we arent really gonna get silly mascot adventures once we reach the weekend in game. Were gonna get villains who are more like Lancer's dad who TRULY are vile fucks

ch. 1 just felt boring and bland, the humor didn't hut, Susie and Ralse are at their lowest writing wise. Only real highlights are hometown and darkner antagonists

Chapter 1 had a fun but moody feel to it. I get that Susie's demeanor at first was a facade but it's quite jarring even now replaying every chapter in a row how fast she flips, I think it wouldve been better if it was more gradually. The humor in Chapter 1 was weird but wasn't to the extent of Chapter 2. Queen being a constant presence and feeling like less of a real threat felt like a let down. It lost a lot of the comfortable adventure feeling that it initially had, opting more for the high paced humor and energy that Undertale had if that makes sense. It felt like Chapter 1 had bit more of an edge to it.

I think it was a necessary tone shift, after all Susie and Kris enjoying their little adventures, bringing back that childlike wonder of playing pretend is what helps Susie and Kris become friends after all.
Chapter 2 is a wacky silly adventure, their second one, and Chapter 3 seems like another silly adventure at first, but as it starts to reach the end the facade crumbles and the true nature of the story comes into focus, which sets up for Chapter 4.
Still I think nothing will match the general feeling of Chapter 2's Weird route discovery, I wish I had all the archived threads so I could experience it again, no other game has captured my attention like that for a long fucking time
SWORD route was great, but it didn't match the same level of mystery, creepypasta feel that chapter 2 had
I'm hoping Chapter 5 will deliver something similar or better, but looking at the applicable chart on Deltarune's website, it seems a bit smaller than 2.
So I will temper my expectations

Hell the way he's been setting up things, learning both Kris and Ralsei have been holding all sorts of information from her, and learning she really isn't the HERO from the prophecy might just push her over the edge (foreshadowed by her saying she hates people that don't tell you the whole deal, getting mad as fuck with Ralsei after Gerson's statue is revealed, her piano story which heavily implies this will happen again, the person playing the piano better being a parallel for the real girl hero, and Susie smashing the piano as a parallel for whatever the fuck she's going to do once she finds out all of this)
Or she has grown so much (thanks to Gerson and her friends's support) that she decides no matter what she will do what's right.
I think the Gerson fight being completed will most definitely be a big factor in this

I can't say I agree. While I had a positive experience with chapter 1 overall all the way back when it released, the culminating point and the "emotional" moments were kinda cringe and try-hard. I felt the story didn't earn them. Or maybe my expectations were set way too high because of Undertale. I'll mention two specific scenes that didn't work in my opinion, so that it's not just me talking shit without giving you examples.
The first one is when Kris goes out of the classroom to meet up with Susie to go get chalk. I felt Susie's dialog was too try-hard and edgy. It kinda comes out of nowhere without any buildup and is unnecessarily melodramatic. What, Susie expresses intent to just straight up murder Kris? That escalated rather oddly. But that wasn't the part that made me cringe. It was that line Susie gave about not wanting Toriel to have to bury her child. Way too kitschy and subsequently cringe as fuck. You could express the same shit without writing something this gratuitous.
The next and more important scene that I found cringe is after the King tricks the trio during their battle. Kris is knocked back and being lifted by the King. Susie makes him turn around and says something snarky to communicate that he's about to lose, which reminded me of Marvel writing, which I just cannot stomach. Made me cringe into oblivion. And I rolled my eyes at then Lancer arriving with the darkners to resolve the battle.
I didn't find the following chapters to have moments that were cringe like this. The writing "lows" were consistently at a higher level than they were in chapter 1. Also, despite me enjoying chapter 1 on release, in my eyes it was still a big step down in terms of quality from Undertale, despite the better graphics and neater combat mechanics. The following chapters raised the quality level in my eyes, even though so far it's still not comparable to Undertale. Then again, a few games manage that. It's a tough act to follow.
