I rewatched the giygas fight again recently since it's been years and I still think it's surreal that this was an approved final boss for a nintendo game but it has me thinking
the flowey fight in undertale is supposed to be toby equivalent to it but I cant help but feel like it's way too silly when Earthbound treats Giygas pretty seriously. Undertale was Tobys "test game" for his actual dream game which is Deltarune but a lot of Earthbounds and Mother's 1 and 3's more serious moments, I feel ,are taken way more seriously than anything that happens in Deltarune or Undertale. I wonder if later chapters will actually get more tonally serious and bleak. Chapter 4 had a bit of a hint of that.
Also I guess some people could say Mother 3 was a bit too melancholy, bleak, and depressing for the majority the game but I loved that game a fucking lot.

The last part of the Giygas fight is interesting because after exhausting all your prayers and having it swallowed to darkness the game ends with (YOU) the player praying for the characters safety which ultimately leads to Giygas's defeat, so I wonder how Toby will end up using that concept in Deltarune since it seems like the most obvious thing he would do.

Susie sprains her ankle in Chapter 2 with a very mundane fall. Also in Chapter 2, Berdly can either get a numb arm (NARM) or be rendered completely comatose. In Chapter 4, Kris is explicitly said to be bleeding after falling through glass, and later Susie visibly bleeds after punching glass. Just because you don't get a graphic death scene whenever an enemy kills you, and healing is easy to come by, doesn't mean dark worlds aren't dangerous.

then we are introduced to tenna, a straight up 3D dude in a 2D world. and then mike, who is just a .jpeg of a real life microphone. weird and charming, certainly. but where can tobert possibly go from here.

consider that a 2D object or consciousness cannot fathom the full scale of a 3D object, only the shadow. we can let tenna slide, because he is pixelated, he is a 2D rendition of a 3D object, therefore he can be perceived by the main cast.

now consider that there also is a man. not a monster, not explicitly stated to be human which in this context would mean Like Kris, but A Man. A fully fledged person. He cannot be fathomed by 2D consciousness, though they can be aware of him.

the only logical conclusion is that the final chapter will advance to the point of being real life, with kris coming out of the screen to literally kill you or whatever, like something that can only happen in a fever nightmare. and if this isn't the case, tobert is a bigger fraud than miyazaki, who has no idea what a meta narrative even is.

I am being forced by a friend to play this game. I am what I assume to be roughly half way through chapter 2.

Are these threads, which imply the existence that this game has actual FANS on this website, some sort of elaborate prank, or is the game going to magically become good and stop wasting time. The entirety of chapters 1 and 2 (so far) were nothing more than non stop jokes, only a quarter of which got a chuckle out of me and the occasional actual laugh.

The plot is non existent so far. Barely anything has happened beyond "four kids go into a tumblr Narnia and a prophecy says two of them will balance it in some esoteric fashion"

The characters are all different flavors of unlikable cringe, and Susie in particular goes from being "too cool" for everyone around her, adults and kids alike, to joining Lancer (the only character I vaguely enjoy) in being a literal fucking goof ball Sponge-Bob "vallain."

The visuals are consitently dull as sin, save for the odd meme face or the sudden appearnce of an actual vista in chapter 2, the music has yet to achieve anything beyond being mildly catchy at times, and the unique combat idea feels like and utter after thought that the game treats as some sort of undesired obligation it has to wheel out every so often.

I think DETERMINATION is supposed to represent the willingness of the Player to push past any challenge and complete the game. The reason the amalgams were created is because the monsters of Undertale had no agency, they couldn't have any determination. Susie and Kris exhibit parts of determination when opening dark fountains but ultimately its the Player that ensures both of them survive the fight with the Titan.
I think the entire point of Gaster's 'experiment' is to place the Player, the greatest harbinger of determination, into a world where they can no longer make choices as easily as they did in Undertale, and see how determined they are to change that, either through working with Susie in the Normal Route, or going completely off the rails in the Weird Route. Either way, Gaster is satisfied.

Song's fine. No. It's a genuinely good track. It has a distinct character. A bit overly familiar to anyone that has played enough old school pixel games, but not bad. Whenever I complete a review run through of a game, I listen to the entire OST during the writing process, and save whatever I like most for future listening. This song is teetering on the edge of "Yes I want to download that." but it's not exactly blowing me away in the way everyone has been talking about this guy's music for years.
