If there aren't any mechanics that enforce a particular playstyle, then people will just play them as humans with pointy ears.
Which isn't even necessarily so wrong. Not everyone is an actor with a degree in anthropology coupled with a keen interest in mythology, or whatever else you need to "properly play an elf", whatever that even means.
Really, the best games that make elves feel somewhat different in my experience have been WFRP and The Dark Eye, both with elves being statistically superior, but at least Dark Eye elves fucking HATE cities (they stink) and WFRP elves having less fate points.
People in these threads will recommend dumb shit like
>maybe elves forget everything after a couple of years because they live so long
>maybe all elves have bipolar disorder
>maybe elves grow an unlimited number of teeth
>maybe elves are in constant trance and only awake for ten minutes a day
Heard all manners of weird takes that would make them unfun to play as.
