They had a suite of Gamepad features during development. The map and inventory was supposed to display on the second screen concurrently with gameplay on the main screen, like what they did in WWHD and TPHD. But by the time the game came out, this was all kiboshed, and the second screen was reserved exclusively for off-TV play. I take this as clear evidence that there was no plan for a Switch port at the start of 2015.
